Assembly Presents Flag to Fremont Business

By  By Tim Crews, Faithful Navigator

Members of St Joseph Assembly #2246 presented a United States flag to Lee’s Imperial Welding, Inc., of Fremont on Monday, September 27, 2010. The flag presentation was in accordance with the Assembly’s expanded Flag Awareness Program to raise awareness of the proper method of both the display and disposition of American flags. Members of the Assembly presented the new US flag to David Geserick, CFO, at the company location 3300 Edison Street, Fremont. Making the presentation are SK Tim Crews, Faithful Navigator, SK Skip Yenchick, Faithful Pilot, SK Greg Dessel, Chairman Flag Committee, and SK Guillermo Uribe, Faithful Admiral. SK Guillermo Uribe, who is employed at Lee’s Imperial Welding, had noticed that the flag on display at the company front door was worn and needed to be replaced. He brought this need to the attention of the Assembly officers who approved donating a 3’ x 5’ US flag to the company. The company also had four other flags that they had replaced but were not aware of how to properly dispose of them. The Assembly accepted them from the company and will take them to the next US Flag Retirement Ceremony in June 2011.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) annually conducts a ceremony at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Campbell. St Joseph Assembly will work with the VFW for future participation in the US Flag Retirement Ceremony.

This is the first instance of a flag donation as a replacement by the St Joseph Assembly. All Assembly members are encouraged to take a look around their neighborhoods and identify where the US flag is either worn beyond its useful life or is improperly on display. These situations are the ones we aim to rectify and to raise awareness of proper flag etiquette and proper disposition when worn beyond usefulness.
